Amanda MacMurtrie, M.A.
Associate Clinician

Welcome! I am Amanda, an art therapist and clinical mental health intern from Pennsylvania, supervised by Laura Maria Patron, PhD. I received my master’s in Art Therapy with a Specialization in Counseling from Seton Hill University. I am also a certification student with the Theology of the Body Institute. When we are hurt in our relationships, we often carry that pain into other parts of our lives. The good news is that we can find healing and meaning through relationship too. My role as a therapist is to hear your story and offer you opportunities to practice strategies for healthy living. Through sensitivity and collaboration, I create space for connection and support you as we work towards your goals for health and well-being. I look forward to creating that space with you. I have experience supporting clients through barriers to well-being such as anxiety, depression, relationship distress, and difficult life transitions. During my clinical training, I worked in a trauma-informed recovery program for adults with serious and persistent mental illness as well as in a college counseling center with young adults. I am experienced in leading both art therapy groups and community wellness groups where I provide guidance in psychoeducation and creative exploration.
What is art therapy?
Sometimes, words fail to describe difficult experiences, or we can’t find language for our feelings. As an art therapist, I invite creative processes such as journaling, image making, and deconstruction to lead you to personal discovery and inner healing. Art therapy sessions bring the therapy conversation into creative expression through exercises and invitations to try out art media like paper, paint, or clay.
